... Virgin Being Hot at 25

It's something I hope to achieve. And just over 3 years away. So maybe I'll be ok?

Virgin Atlantic have just pushed out an ad campaign proclaiming that they're still hot after 25 years, and I bloody love it!

View the ad HERE

The first time I saw this ad I thought it was amazing (I still do!) It's glam, sleek and so polished. Although I get a couple of the 80s references in it, I guess if i was older I'd probably catch a few more. The arcade machines, paper headlines, backing music and of course the fashion, add something special to this ad, making iteven more resonant with people who remember the 80s and how far we've come since then.

It makes me want to fly with Virgin, so the ad is sucessful in my eyes, and I'm sure anyone watching it who currently flies with them feels pretty darn smug that they'll look as glam by association.

The billboard ads aint bad either... all shades of red.... that's hot :D

... Scary Cadbury Children

The latest ad from Cadbury's 'Glass and a half full' productions is now out and about, gracing our television screens. View it HERE

It really, really scares me.

2 kids are seen about to get a photo taken, they then start having a little eyebrow jig to a retro electro song. scary scary scary.

I recently wrote about the glass and a half full productions, and thought alot about what they are there for and what kind of success they bring. The whole idea seems to be encouraging us to feel as good as we do when eating a chocolate bar, possibly in a more youthful sense. I get the intention when looking at the airport trucks ad, with all of the sleekly pimped out vehicles, racing as if no one is watching. Obviously the drumming gorilla ads also conveyed this message really well, and it's resulted in the most successful viral advertising probably ever seen in the UK.

This eyebrow vid could probably gain a fair bit of viral exposure; it's fun and different. However I really find it a little disturbing on the whole. Scary, kinda ugly children, being weird, do not really encourage me to rush out and buy Cadburys prods.... time will tell if it really works though!

... More Snow Madness

Well, only a few days into my blog and I've let myself down by not writing my rambly thoughts yesterday. shame!

So, I'm blogging about the BBC news, and all that seems to be happening in their world is snow-related. Top stories today include 'Fresh snow brings travel problems' and 'snow latest across the UK.' There isn't much fun news for me to write about in the 'most popular stories now,' and this upsets me. The only semi-fun one is:

* Largest snake 'as long as a bus' *
Upon further reading I discovered that this is just a fossil of a snake, not a real, live snake. Upsetting :(

So, er, yeh. That's it for today folks.

Now I'm off to see Mr Brown to discuss the state of our country! (I'm not even kidding...)

... Today's most popular, more amusing, news

Snow is still on the agenda, but at last- slightly more varied and interesting additions to the BBC's land of news... here's 2 of my faves that are proving most popular at this very minute:

*Donor kidney removed via vagina*

This made me feel ever so slightly sicky at first. Then i read further and discovered that surgeons have also removed other organs through peoples' mouths. EWWWW! The pluses to these kinds of 'natural orifice' extractions is obvious the lack of scarring/cutting/blood/pain, but still! I guess 'birthing' a donor kidney could soon become akin to being a surrogate mother in this sense. Strange indeed... ;)

*Thatcher barred from top BBC show*

Ha brilliant, first Charles and Harry, now Maggie's daughter are mounting the old racist horse. Carol T was heard backstage at the Beeb calling a tennis player a "golliwog." Her spokesperson has referred to the BBC as having 'more leaks than Thames Water.' Well how about telling Miss T not to be inappropriate in a bloody media centre. Did she not think someone would hear and report on it. Foolish. I've learnt to think before I speak, maybe in an almost paranoid sense at times, those in the public eye should maybe try a little harder.

On a side note, i visited York last week for the first time in my adult life, and was shocked at how many golliwog toys/memorabilia was in loads of wee tourist shop windows. 'Visit York, where Racism sells. Literally.'

... The Most Popular News Right Now.

Wow so who woulda guessed that 4 out of the top 5 most popular news items being read on the BBC right now are about the wonderful snowy weather we've had today.

My favourite non-story is the Map of the UK snowfall across today/tomorrow. Pretty! I can't believe how our mighty nation has crumbled under the stress of a days worth of intense snow; I had a lovely walk home from dance class via Hyde Park and it was so serene and peaceful. Guess that doesn't reflect the chaos that will hit when Britain wakes up to layers of treacherous ice tomorrow morning.

None of the other top stories are brilliantly amusing. Obamarama meets recession etc. Bring back the letter-delivering cat from last week's top news hits!

... Why I Have Never Blogged Before...

As someone who studied New Media at University, I've always learnt and written about the magic of web 2.0 and the way it connects us. Yet for some strange reason I never took the time to start up my own blog and be part of it all.

Well... times have changed! You're now reading what will maybe sometime soon in the near or distant or unimagined future, become an internet hit. Ok, so probably not, but it'll give me somewhere to expell all of the weird and wonderful thoughts and observations currently clogging up my wee mind.

So why have I started this blog? And what will it contain? And will I actually keep it alive?

The main purpose of Suze Reviews (catchy eh) is to ramble on about funny media events/ads/news stories, in a way that doesnt distract half of my office.

I'm going to try my best to report daily on BBC News 'Most Popular Now' section which always seems to rank stories such as shapeshifting robber goats higher than current affairs such as the fun in the Middle East. (This is what sparked me to blog on this erractic and amusing news tool.)

Also, as someone who aspires to become part of the fast-paced, exciting advertising industry, I felt it was about time i stopped reading other bloggers' reviews of the newest ad campaigns, and started my own. It's an industry I am dying to break into, and the hours I've spent on grad applications and interview prep hasnt yet led to any concrete job offers, so maybe taking a pro-active and visible approach to Adland will help me on my way!

So enjoy what maybe, hopefully, *definately* will become an interesting look into media madness!

Suze xx
